SAKINAW LAKE HOUSE

Jenkins was honoured to be offered the opportunity to create this beautifully crafted space for a young family who spent childhood years on the lake. The collaboration between Architect, Designer and builder on this custom home, full of soft tones and smooth wood, could not have been a better match.

The home is built into a steep, raw granite slope whose massive boulders and natural ledges define the architecture from the foundation up. For Jenkins Construction, the challenge was not just to build on the rock, but to build with it - anchoring structural components directly into solid granite, engineering drainage and access around immovable stone, and crafting transitions where glass, steel, and timber meet untouched geology. Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows frame two distinct worlds: the calm expanse of Sakinaw Lake in front, and the dramatic rock face behind that locks the home securely into its site. This tension between technical complexity and visual simplicity is where Jenkins’ craftsmanship becomes most visible.

Created as a year-round refuge for a family who lives by the rhythm of the lake, the home is shaped to maximize both use and enjoyment of the waterfront. Jenkins Construction ensured that durable materials and precise detailing withstand the environmental demands of lakefront living and the result is a home that amplifies the beauty and ease of Sakinaw, offering a place to gather, recharge, and create lasting memories.
